The Region

Why Yirgacheffe

Yirgacheffe is not really a place so much as a promise. The name sits on a small town in the Gedeo Zone, but it has come to mean a particular kind of clarity in the cup — floral, tea-like, almost translucent — that buyers spend careers chasing.

The forest here is old and layered. Coffee grows beneath shade trees on smallholdings measured in fractions of a hectare, and the altitude does the rest: cherries ripen slowly, sugars concentrate, acidity stays bright rather than sharp.

Almost everything is washed, and washed carefully. The stations here are meticulous about float sorting and fermentation timing, because at this altitude the difference between good and extraordinary is measured in hours.

In the cup

  • Jasmine
  • Bergamot
  • Peach
  • Lemon blossom

The Itinerary

Four days, start to finish.

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Addis Ababa

We meet you at Bole and take you straight to the showroom. Coffee, a proper meal, and an afternoon cupping across the current season so you arrive in Yirgacheffe already knowing what you are looking for.

  2. Day 2

    The road to Yirgacheffe

An early start and a long, beautiful drive. We reach the washing station in the afternoon, walk the drying beds with the manager, and sit down with farmers supplying the station. The evening ends with a traditional coffee ceremony.

  3. Day 3

    Farms at first light

Out before six, when the light is low and the picking is happening. You walk the rows, pick cherry, follow it back to the station, and watch it through intake, sorting, and depulping. We cup on site in the afternoon.

  4. Day 4

    Return and final cupping

Back to Addis with samples of everything you tasted at origin. A final cupping at the showroom, a debrief on what is available and in what volume, and we get you to your flight.
